Wii U Games To Be Downloadable And Available At Retail
Nintendo intends to make things easier for customers who want to download their games. In the April 27th financial meeting, company chief Satoru Iwata announced that the game titles for Nintendo next generation console Wii U will be available for download from the official online store and will be released simultaneously with physical distribution to retail outlets.
Customers will be able to buy the games on discs, as is commonly done still, and they will also be able to purchase the download the games from Nintendo’s online eShop at the same time. This is in contrast to practices of rival Microsoft who makes it available on physical disks first and then makes it available online after a few months from the initial release. This forces eager gamers to look for a retail outlet to buy the latest games from. According to Nintendo, Wii U customers will not be faced with any such gap.
In fact, Nintendo seems to be planning to deploy this release strategy for all its gaming consoles, including the handheld Nintendo 3DS. Upon the arrival of the New Super Mario Bros 2 title on the console in August this year, the company intends to shift all 3DS title to the simultaneous online/offline release mechanism. 3DS will also benefit from download code that can be purchased from a retail store. This will help gamers benefit from the retail guidance available from at the stores and then download their games on the spot if WiFi is available. This brings a blend the mixes the best of both worlds.
In the meant time, Nintendo is hard a work in the background to release the Wii U by the end of this year. Microsoft and Sony have both announced that they would not be releasing any new consoles this year. So the makers of Wii are keen on taking advantage of the gap year and get ahead of the competition.
The new Wii U will come with a new controller that has a screen on it. This will allow gamers to take advantage of two separate screens displaying separate aspects of the game For example, the large screen might show the actual game whilst the handheld screen shows the map, character information, etc. This new system has generated a lot of buzz in the gaming world and is expected to be showcased at the upcoming E3 gaming event.
The Wii has been a runaway hit for Nintendo after its launch. It brought console gaming to the living rooms of many families and showed that consoles don’t necessarily have to target hardcore gamers. Casual gamers can also generate enough sales. The Wii, with its motion controllers and various different accessories, has been a hit with family members of all ages through games such as Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Mario Kart. The Wii U will be the second generation of the Wii console.
