Cables To Go 29670 TruLink 1-Port 60 GHz WirelessHD Video Transmitter and Receiver Kit (Black) Review

The Cables To Go 29670 TruLink 1-Port 60 GHz WirelessHD Video Transmitter and Receiver Kit is a WirelessHD based wireless transceiver kit for your home. It works primarily through HDMI connections. It works on the 60GHz bandwidth and supports a distance of up to 10 meters or 33 feet. However, your mileage will vary depending on the set up of your room. Under ideal circumstances, it can actually go further than the given limit.

Even though the technology is meant to work through barriers, too many barriers will cause signal dropouts because these are not your industrial strength radio transmitters. So to get the best out of them, you will have to place them in the same room with as little blocking their sight of each other as possible. Even though the ‘line of sight’ policy is not exactly applicable here, placing them on the same level will help you get a better connection.

The kit comes complete with the transmitter, receiver and a remote plus Two HDMI cables for hooking things up. Set up is as simple as plug and play, nothing extra to work on for basic operation. Anything that outputs to HDMI can be connected to the transmitter and the receiver can be connected to anything that accepts HDMI input can be connected to the receiver. So you can connect both high-end HDTV’s and HD projectors to this kit. This follows the WirelessHD 1.0 specifications, so it does everything that WirelessHD debuted with. But the recent, more advanced features are absent here.

One good thing I personally appreciate in this kit is it’s auto-power off ability after being idle for some time. In this day and age, it is necessary for all our gadgets to have this feature so that we can lower our consumption of electricity.

Performance specs are quite impressive for the Cables To Go 29670 TruLink 1-Port 60 GHz WirelessHD Video Transmitter and Receiver Kit — 1080p@ 60Hz, high throughput with up to 4Gbps transfer rates and 7.1 surround support. However, the actual performance will still depend on your situation.
