iSuppli Predicts Consumer Electronics Boom Via Wireless Video Interface Solutions

Given the frenetic pace at which development is taking place to bring about ubiquitous wireless video interfaces, it is no wonder that iSuppli Corp is predicting a boom coming in the Consumer Electronics (CE) sector thanks to video-oriented products that also have some kind of wireless video interfacing solution.

The high-bandwidth video interface solutions that are being integrated in to these devices will make the video-oriented products more effective in the market. This segment is set to see a rise to the tune of more than 85.2 million units by the year 2014, which was at 606,000 units in 2009. It has also been predicted that in 2014, 53 million of these devices will be wireless-video-enabled Digital TV’s along with netbooks and laptops that are targeted towards the average consumer.

According to Randy Lawson, principal analyst behind the consumer and display electronics industry at iSuppli, the primary driving force in this growth spurt will be the wireless connectivity between consumer electronic devices with wireless video interface solutions and internet connectivity being available directly on the TV. These key factors will drive the growth and inspire innovations in the field, this changing the face of it completely.

This is the third generation of consumer electronics, says iSuppli. CE 3.0 for short, will place primary importance on connectivity and everything else will be pushed to the background. This transition will be similar to the CE 2.0 improved on the CE 1.0 capabilities of only linear, analog playback with digital content, storage and time shifted playback.

Lawson also added that the need for connectivity arose as soon as the devices went digital. This made them seek out newere sources of content and for accomplishing that, proper connectivity is irreplaceable.

We can already see multiple efforts being taken in this direction. The most recent one being Google TV. With standards like WHDI, WirelessHD and WiGig paving the way, we will soon have an abundance of interconnectable video devices to serve all our needs.
