WHDI Chip Maker Amimon Ships Half A Million Chips
Amimon, the Israel based chip makers, have issued a statement that reports that they have moved over half a million wireless media streaming IC chips already. According to them, the company has been experience a surge in the demand for IC’s that are used to make WHDI devices to wirelessly transceive 1080p HD resolution video over a short distance.
The news of Amimon moving that many chips is of course a good news for WHDI because it reflects the the interest that device makers are taking in the standard. The company tops off this news with the statement that they will cross 1 million by the time this year is through, which is an ambitious projection indeed. However, if the demand for WHDI continues to increase the way it is right now, they just might overshoot their own projection. After all, this is one industry where it is extremely hard to predict the future.
According to Dr. Yoav Nissan -Cohen, company CEO, Aminimon is the majority player in the HDTV market. With about a 90% market share, they are actually bordering on monopolizing the entire market. And this is despite the space being extremely competitive. As the shipment milestone signals, he said that multiple Amimon powered wireless media, pc-to-tv devices are about to hit the market very soon. That will further strengthen the chip-maker’s hold on the market. It will perhaps even take the company to newer markets and help them establish themselves there.
This success of Amimon’s is being attributed to the company’s 2nd generation chips which were build to meet the WHDI standards. That would include full 1080p@60HZ video streaming and also high quality computer graphics, multi-room (over 100feet/30meters) range by going through walls, latency of below 1 millisecond, HDCP 2.0 encryption standard (Hollywood approved), low power consumption mode for portable devices, 5GHz unlicensed band along with support for DFS (Dynamic frequency selection) and over-the-air switching.
