Intel’s Wi-Di With Netgear Push2TV Appears on Toshiba Laptop, Streams Screen Contents To HDTV

This is is yet another content streaming system for viewing your content on an HDTV. It is called the Netgear Push2Tv and it has recently appeared bundled with a new Toshiba laptop — the Satellite E205-S1904. Push2TV is essentially a simple way to wirelessly stream content to your HDTV from your computer.

Push2TV is meant to talk directly with your computer and HTDV. It completely bypasses the router and hence saves the user the usual headache of adding this new things into the network and making sure everything works together. Push2TV is a small adapter that connects to the HDTV through an HDMI cable that comes with it. It also comes with analog audio and composite video, possibly for older TVs that are non-HD and do not have HDMI.

The Satellite E205 comes with this thing bundled and has Intel’s Wi-Di built in to support the hardware. Wi-Di stands for Wireless Display and that is what allows the user to push the contents of the screen to the larger screen. The whole set up has been reviewed and it seems like it is not as good as it can be.

Settin up Push2Tv is fairly easy by the sounds of it. You plug it and and it gives a simple interface to make resize the image to fit the TV if it’s no fitting properly.

The Wi-Di software is not very well done and needs more polish. It also checks your wireless driver status and notifies you i newer drivers are available. Push2TV has some of its own problems. According to the reviews, there’s a noticeable lag in the actual action on the laptop and the stream that is on the TV. It’s a delay of about half a second but it is quite noticeable.

This is the main reason why standards like WHDI, Wireless HD are being painstakingly developed, to smoothen out these problems and make the user experience much better.
