Cisco’s Top Brass Heads Over To RFaxis Advisory Board
RFaxis is a fabless semiconductor company that designs chips mostly for wireless applications. They have innovative and useful solutions for wireless and connectivity markets that serve a lot of common applications that we see in today’s technology and that includes WHDI. And they have announced recently that one of Cisco’s top personnel, Malachy Moynihan, will be joining the RFaxis board of advisors.
Malachy has been the vice-president of the Cisco’s video product strategy since 2007. He has been crucial in Cisco’s forays in to IP based consumer video solutions. According to the PR issued by RFaxis, Malachy is mainly sought after for his knowledge and understanding of the business, strategic relations, acquisitions, partnerships and connectivity. According to the CEO, Mike Neshat, Malachy’s focus on the next generation IP-based video delivery systems makes him especially relevant to the company. His experience in the field is expected to accelerate the growth of the company.
Mike talks about RFX5000 RFeIC chip that is mainly built for 5.0 GHz Wireless-N applications. He outlines HDTV streaming and gaming applications as the main uses of it. There’s also the RFX5024 dual-band RFeIC that is designed specifically for side-by-side streaming of 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz streams with the company’s high speciality antennas. This chip is not as high performance on any one of the bands but its capability to support both makes it unique.
Malachy started out at Infogear Technology Corp. which was then bought out by Cisco. According to Malachy, his past experience, which includes working for Apple at one point, he will be able to nurture and guide “rising stars” such as RFaxis.
RFaxis is fast becoming one of the key companies in the wireless connectivity game. It was founded as recently as January 2008 but it’s fast rise can be attributed to some focussed development work and good product strategies.
